The summer is well under way but the summer season is only just about to begin. We have been busy inter season finishing off after the winter, handing back chalets, organising chalets for next season, end of year accounts and preparing for the summer. We have of course managed to do other things, Anne has been back in the UK with Aiden visiting family while I was looking after cycling guests in early June for another operator. That was fun and at the end of the second week we all got to ride the Time Megeve cyclosportive. This was a well run event in a great location and will appear on our program for next season, due to be held on June12, 2011. See www.csportmegeve.com for more details if you are interested.
Next weekend we have La Marmotte 2010 and then the following weekend we have our own guests arriving for the Tour de France Alps week.

The snow is still in good condition as the end of the ski season approaches. Anne was out skiing today and informs me the cold weather is keeping the snow firm. The piste down to La Tania and Meribel are holding up well despite being the middle of April. Spring is really starting to take a hold further down the valley with plenty of green coming through and blossoms in the trees.
After all chalets being full last week we are now down to 1 chalet full. The empty chalets are now getting the end-of-season clean and close down. Chalet Grange-a-Charlotte will be kept open for the summer, for both catered road cycling holidays ( see www.cyclehame.co.uk ) and for anyone wanting to enjoy this area of the Alps in the summer.

After warm and wet weather last weekend conditions improved significantly this week with freezing temperatures overnight creating ideal spring conditions. Following the sun around in the morning and early afternoon there has been some great skiing but it was heavy by mid afternoon. More snow fell yesterday down to Meribel and La Tania level, it was heavy for a spell with 14cm falling on Saulire. More snow is forecast today.
We are getting close to the end of the season with the next 2 weeks full in all our chalets(1 bedroom free in Chalet Papillon this week). There is still plenty of availability for the week 10/11-17/18Apr,10.
We are already looking forward to next season with a bit of interest already in our chalets for 2010/11. It looks as though we will have all our La Tania chalets secured for next season but should be able to confirm this over the next few weeks. Spring is approaching fast with a real change in the weather recently, still hard frosts at night and warming during the day. Last week we enjoyed blue skies every day, the first time this season.
6/7 March La Tania hosted the Valkyrie Festival Jib and Freeride competition. The temperatures were very cold but the conditions were excellent. There was some spectacular riding, see the video on the Festival website www.zapiks.fr/valkyrie-fest-2010-la-tania-1.html

Excellent spring like conditions for the start of March, we have had a few snowfalls recently topping up the snow base. After a long spell of very cold weather this winter the warmer weather has been a welcome change.
The chalets have been quieter the past 2 weeks since the main half term holiday, though it looks as though it is going to pick up again for next week. The slopes have also been quiet despite the fact that some regions in France are still on holiday, apparently many of the French skiers are visiting the smaller resorts as a result of the weaker economy. This has been a bonus for us as there are less people on the snow and shorter lift queues.
This weekend sees the European Cup ski jump competition being held in Le Praz. This is always spectacular viewing and the jump is only 5 minutes down the road from La Tania.

January has been a good month with regular snowfalls creating very good ski and board conditions over the whole ski area. The weather was unsettled for spells over the month however temperatures have remained cold helping to protect the snow.
The chalets have had good occupancy however there have been empty beds in Chalet Bouquetins the last 2 weeks.
This weekend Courchevel Le Praz(5 minutes from La Tania) will be hosting the French Cup ski jumping, always spectacular to see people flying 90m on oversized telemark skis.
This month also sees the start of the Fireworks Festival in Courchevel.

It has been a great start to the New Year in La Tania and Meribel with the chalets operating smoothly and great snow. The season has started with regular small snowfalls and even a bit of rain, then on Monday morning we woke to 20cm of fresh snow outside the chalets creating fantastic skiing conditions. All the runs are now open down to La Tania.
The weekends have proved challenging so far with last weekend no exception. Baggage handlers at Geneva airport were on strike causing delays all weekend and the group staying in Chalet Papillon arrived but their luggage didn\'t. This can be a problem at the best of times but travelling with a 2 and 5 year old makes it even more difficult. We managed to get enough equipment together so they could get out on the snow on the first day and, thankfully, their luggage has since turned up at the chalet.

It appears tickets have gone on sale for the Meribel Little World festival taking place in various venues around Meribel 13-19Mar,2010. Acts performing at the festival include The Feeling and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. The website is advertising an early bird pass for 90euros giving access to all the performances, sounds like a good deal. Christmas has passed and the New Year is getting closer, it is hard to believe we are already in our third week of the season in our La Tania and Meribel chalets. The weekend was hectic with the expected disruptions to flights and difficult driving conditions. Thankfully everyone managed to arrive before the evening meals which was a huge relief.
This morning we woke up to a layer of fresh snow and it is now snowing as I type. The area really is starting to look good as we continue to get small but regular snowfalls.
The staff are starting to get into a routine and doing a fine job, our biggest problems at present are a hot tub which keeps shorting(should be solved today) and the usual early season difficulties with France Telecoms.

All the Ski Hame chalets started operation last week with a relatively smooth start. There were a few minor
problems as we would expect with all the chalets sitting empty over the summer.
The first changeover was not so smooth however with the disruptions caused by bad weather,both in the UK
and out here in the Alps.
The snow has been good so far with extremely cold temperatures and small but regular snow falls over the past week.
